A DEF Tier 1 Instructor is the foundation for all DEF training and programs, therefore the backbone of our organization. All Tier 1 Instructors must retain annual currency and operate under supervision and guidance of a DEF Tier 2 Instructor to plan and execute all training. Completion of the Tier 1 Certification program is a demonstration in mastering the basics of instruction of aquatic safety/risk management, water confidence training from beginner to advanced levels, a basic understanding of aquatic fitness programming, and maintaining currency with their CPR/AED certification.
PREREQUISITES
1. Have coaching or fitness instructor experience
2. Have swimming or water experience
3. Able to conduct the DEF Screener:
a. 10min water tread
b. 25m 10lb brick tow
c. Deep end mask retrieval
d. 25m underwater crossover
SYLLABUS
This 1-day course focuses on our training methodology focusing on the principles of FREE, mental Focus, on-demand Relaxation, Economy of Motion, and Efficient Breathing. The program includes instruction on training your mind, the Deep End Fitness culture, principles, pool safety, pool instruction methods, breathing drills and techniques, water confidence drills, the DEF Screener, and elements of a DEF workflow. The seminar includes one DEF workout that will focus on teamwork, mental fortitude and the principles of FREE.
WHO
The Tier 1 Instructor Course is the first step on the pathway to being a DEF Fully Certified Instructor, it will give you the teaching tools to build upon your own skills as an athlete but also allow you to give the knowledge to teach others.
PAYMENT
To sign up for a seminar you must pay the full course fee. This payment is non-refundable.
Upon completing the Deep End Fitness Tier 1 Instructor Course, NASM, AFAA and ACE will award you 8 CEUs.
The Tier 2 Certificate Course is an intermediate-level instructor course that builds on the concepts and principles introduced during the Tier 1 Certificate Course. This course is suitable for experienced DEF Instructors that meet the DEF standard of pool safety and providing highest quality of coaching to their athletes. Tier 2 participants will enhance their understanding of the DEF methodology, workflow design, and implementation. They also advance their skills while coaching others in movements and workouts.
DEF Tier 2 Participants must be able to pass the Tier 2 Screener prior to training:
1. Swim 300 meters under 7 minutes
2. 50 meter Brick Tow
3. 50 meter UWC (25×2)
5. 4 minute Bobs
Course Objectives
1. Understanding and implication of Water Safety procedures
2. Presentation, demonstration, execution, and instruction of ALL water and ground movements (Arm action, leg action, body position, breathing and glide), breathing techniques, and DEF Principles.
3. Develop an effective and understandable DEF Session Workflow and Program
Requirements
Minimum time as a Tier 1 is 3 months and the ability to lead a DEF Session safely and effectively.
Upon completion of the training you will receive:
Complete Tier 1 and Tier 2 Certification through Deep End Fitness.
Complete general application and location for licensing with essay.
Submit and be approved for DEF Insurance.
Submit payment for your first year as a DEF Licensee.
E-sign the annual licensee agreement.
Congratulations! You are an official licensee.
DEF INSTRUCTOR CERTIFICATIONS
The initial process would be to attend our Deep End Fitness Tier 1 Instructor Course. We currently run courses every 3 months in Southern California and in other cities depending on the demand signal of that specific area. Mobile training team (we come to you) available upon request.
Once you pass the course, there is a minimum time of 3 months as a Tier 1 Instructor practicing our methodology and safety procedures before applying to be a Tier 2 Instructor. Once you have completed the Tier 2 Instructor Course, you can apply to be a DEF Licensee where you are able to utilize our Brand Name and Training Programs.
With application provide the location of where you intend to utilize the DEF License, with information of swimming pools and person in charge of each pool to contact for coordination of program and insurance. In your essay, include (but not limited to) why you want to become a licensee, vision and value proposition to participants, and how you plan to grow your athletes and the DEF brand in your area.
COSTS
THE COST TO ATTEND A TIER 1 INSTRUCTOR COURSE IS $300 USD.
THE COST TO ATTEND A TIER 2 INSTRUCTOR COURSE IS $500 USD.
A DEEP END FITNESS LICENSEE PAYS AN ANNUAL FEE OF $2500 USD.
WHAT YOU GET
Once you have become a Tier 1 Instructor our network and training opens up for you to attend and try out to help build your understanding as a Deep End Fitness Instructor. You will be assigned a DEF mentor to assist you in the process.
Licensing allows you to legally use the Deep End Fitness trademark, and offer Deep End Fitness training at one physical location. Your pool can easily participate in Deep End Fitness HQ events such as the DEF Challenge. We’ll help you market your pool in their area via social media pages and monthly newsletters.
As a DEF Licensee, you also get priority access to support from our Legal Team. Your pool will also be considered for features on and social media pages if you send and submit your photos and content.
